“How The Beatles Saved My Life” by Robert McEwen, H.W., M.

Me and the Beatles
and how they saved my life.

Good evening
I am wanting to share
with you.

I love guitars.
I have one now.  I didn’t then.  I was 12 years old.
I had a Beatle haircut….
I bought my first one after seeing the Beatles
in the Portland Coliseum in August 1965.
Paul, John, George and Ringo.
The first chord twanging loud.
It was “I Want to Hold Your Hand”
That is all I heard of the concert.
The rest was yelling, crying, screaming.
My two brothers also on their seats
standing and crying and screaming at the top
of their lungs.  I was tossing and screaming.
It was Beatle Mania.

It was like a fire spreading almost instantly through the arena
of 20,000 people.  That is all it would hold.
Later that month I bought a guitar, a fake japanese fender
with painted shitty pick ups
and an amp that was home made
and butt ugly.

The family and I went to Seattle the next day.
Dad pulled into the Edge Water Hotel.
A thousand fans blocked the gate and the police
escorted our black 1958 Impala in.
The Beatles were staying there.

What are the odds we would end up there not knowing they were.

I then fell ill.
Double pneumonia.
Had it for 13 weeks.
Stranded at home.
Face bloated
with water and infection.
They had to use a scalpel to drain the fluid out.
Ears jammed up.  Lungs full of liquids.
I could hear nothing.
Only a faint hiss.  My hair long and greasy.
The Doctors said I would die.
What saved my life was drawing pictures of all The Beatles and their equipment.
Vox amps, Georges Gretsch Tennesean guitar, John and his 3 pick up black Rickenbacker
and Ringo and his grey simple 4 drum kit.  Ludwig. and Paul and his famous Hofner violin bass, now titled the Beatle Bass.

30 years later I bought all the gear.  All of it.
Then I made the recording studio I drew.
I recorded all their songs off Rubber Soul.

That saved my life again later.
Creatively speaking.

Next, of course I got to meet a couple of them
when I worked in Los Angeles recording and production in music.
1980.

True Story.

Seven Practical Buddhist Principles

Here are seven Buddhist principles that can be applied to any life, no matter what your spiritual understanding or what your standard of living:
 .
1. EXTERNAL DE-CLUTTERING
.
One of the foremost teachings of Buddhism is the letting go of worldly pleasures and making life the simplest it can be. Buddha was born to a king and was destined to be a king himself but he left all of that in the quest for true knowledge and enlightenment. Even today they only carry and have what they need to survive and not a thing more.
 .
2. INTERNAL DE-CLUTTERING
Monks believe in doing things for the greater good. They do not do anything only for themselves. Even when they sit to meditate, they do it for everyone. Internal de-cluttering is letting go of one’s own desires and doing things for other people, and living for others.
 .
3. MEDITATING
 .
Monks spend the majority of their day meditating. They spend about 4-6 hours each day, calming their minds by meditating. The benefits of meditation are now unknown to any of us. It is not necessary to spend so much time meditating, starting off with half an hour and slowly progressing is absolutely okay too.
 .
4. LEARN FROM THE WISE
 .
In Buddhism, they associate old age with being wiser. If you take a moment and inspect your surroundings, you will find loads of people around you, who have the wisdom you need in life. Do not shy away from asking for help and the lessons that you need to steer smoothly in life. We are all lost and we feel hopeless sometimes, and that is okay, so is reaching out and getting the help you need.
 .
5. BE A GOOD LISTENER AND LET GO OF JUDGEMENT
The purpose of communication is to ease the pain we have in our hearts and minds and this can only be achieved if one listens carefully and without judgement. The purpose of communication is to hear someone out and not just wait for your turn to talk. Listen to people and make yourself heard. Let the toxicity of the negative feelings of judgement not feature in your aura.
 .
6. EMBRACE CHANGE
We live in constant fear of change. We get so used to things like our bodies, states and minds; even the mere idea of change makes us uncomfortable. To be truly calm, one must know and understand that change is the only constant.
 .
People change it. They make it better; they make it worse; ultimately, they make it different.
Once you understands this, you can get rid of anxieties, fears and complexes. One needs to understand that the moment is all there is; over thinking and the fear of what might happen or what might be or not be is ultimately pointless.
 .
7. LIVING IN THE MOMENT
 .
Embracing the moment without thinking what the future holds for us is undoubtedly challenging because we are all human and humans have the most advanced brain.
 .
Hence it is only natural that we over think, but we forget that if we start living in the moment we are in, and let the things we have no control run as they are, we can be truly happy.

“Sexuality” by Robert McEwen, H.W., M.

~ THE SOUCE OF CREATION~
CREATIVE ENERGY FROM ONE SOURCE.

ANDROGYNY IS THE MALE AND FEMALE PRINCIPLE

~LGBTQ+ more labels and more boxes in search of identity is unfolding in the current sexual creativity.  In TRUTH, there are no boxes.  We must let go of all separations eventually.  It is good for time for self definition…then it becomes no big deal.  Ask any old drag queen or lesbian, you will find it is true.  It is a who cares kind of comment you most likely will get back.  “I came out so long ago….”  Truth is… We are each whole.  Keep it simple.   I am androgynous and an into just  Being, or the fancy name is ontology.  I am a counselor and teacher.

As a counselor and professional astrologer since 1977, I have enjoyed watching the evolution of sexuality unfold.  I lived in Hollywood in  1972 and watched it do the the Hollyweirdness drag queen thang, even though Darcelle was doing it lovely here in Portland and later got to experience and converse with his loving heart.  He helped so many in the Portland area, including me.  He had such nice nails and showed me how to do mine, though mine were not gold like his in my drag number.  He is the longest living Drag Queen on the planet, and has helped so many communities, from tiny little  podunk-backwater, one horse towns, that have had a couple gays waiting for permission to come out of the closet, and not kill themselves in the process!   He is such an angel.  Ok…done with that rant.

As an astrologer  “since the solar eclipse on August 21st, things seem to have shifted.  Many people have notice some kind of difference, be it a vibrational shift or what?  People are more courageous it seems, many have reported.  Also a sense of certainty.  That is true with most my friends, and people I correspond with on Face Book.  It may sound woo-woo,  or new age to you, but I shy away from that perspective, and I am telling you many many people are feeling this certainty and boldness.

How can you put your creative passion into something that takes your courage and bold certainty to bring peace and healing in Portland?  This is the key question from August  21st, again on Sept 6th during the Full Moon and most every new and full Moon coming up the rest of the year.  Contact me for dates if you wish for that.  Leo is a wonderful and sincere leader and blesses us all. Courage to be the unique androgynous Being we each are.  Leo loves to roar.  And the courage there in powerful and a leader.  I found a peace with this energy and the Full Moon in Pisces on Sept 6th, at 1:29 PM Portland time.  This is a time of great imagination!  What do you imagine in your life that would be helpful in the community.  That is a key question, as well as being physically helpful and there for those in in the community you truly want to be.  What can you offer?   That is a key question.  I would love to hear from you and what your imagination and skills bring to Portland.

I offer my astrology and teaching/counseling experience to share.  This available to all people whom are exploring their sexual fluidity.   My dear friend, and professional associate, Suzanne Deakins, Ph.d, H.W, M., have taught in this field for years, and no offer it in Portland, Oregon.  If interested please email me, or call sometime.

How to Translate Feeling into Sound

Thane has said that sometime in the future we will do Translation with sound or music.  Here is something that may be a step in that direction.

“How can a song – written by a perfect stranger – feel as if it were written about you? Composer/artist/producer Claudio explains her art, purpose and technique, and finishes with an exclusive unveiling of her new track: “I was a Rockstar”.

“In her solo live performances, Claudio creates and orchestrates songs with complex layering in real-time using music technology. To her, the art is in making sure both the technology and technique are driven by the heart – and achieve a delicate balance between control and instinct. Rachel Claudio is a Perth-born/European-based artist/composer/singer/producer and university lecturer.

“She works with major labels and composes scores for film and TV. Her live video performances have captured the hearts and minds of millions of viewers.

“This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx”

EROS, DOUBLE-SEXED GOD OF LOVE

Eros was the Greek god of love and sexual desire. Some claim that he was one of the first gods to emerge from primeval Chaos, hatched from the world-egg, and thus is considered to be one of the eldest gods.

They reason that none of the other gods could have been born without Eros.

There are other theories as to his parentage: He is held to be the son of Aphrodite and Hermes, or Aphrodite and Ares, or even Aphrodite and Zeus. A lyrical fancy even holds that he was the son of Iris, goddess of the Rainbow, and Zephyrus, the West Wind.

Here is a fragment from Robert Graves’ The Greek Myths:

“But the Orphics say that black-winged Night, a goddess of whom even Zeus stands in awe, was courted by the Wind and laid a silver egg in the womb of Darkness; and that Eros, whom some call Phanes, was hatched from this egg and set the Universe in motion.

Eros was double-sexed and golden-winged and, having four heads, sometimes roared like a bull or a lion, sometimes hissed like a serpent or bleated like a ram. Night, who named him Ericepaius and Protogenus Phaethon, lived in a cave with him, displaying herself in triad: Night, Order and Justice.

Before this cave sat inescapable mother Rhea, playing on a brazen drum, and compelling man’s attention to the oracles of the goddess. Phanes created earth, sky, sun, and moon, but the triple-goddess ruled the universe, until her scepter passed to Uranus.”

In more recent mythology, Eros is portrayed as the son of Aphrodite and Ares, and one of the younger deities. He is represented as a playful, winged boy with a bow and arrows. He wounds both gods and men with his unerring and irresistible arrows of desire.

His arrows come in two sets: golden arrows with dove feathers for love, and leaden arrows with owl feathers for indifference.

Eros’ brother is Anteros (“returner of love”) and his wife is the mortal Psyche. The story of Psyche and Eros is found here.

In the Dionysian Mysteries, Eros is the most ancient deity and referred to as protagonus (“the first-born”) who emerged from the cosmic egg of Nyx, the goddess of night. According to the philosopher Plato, Eros is the striving of mankind to the pure, the good, the beautiful.

Eros’ Roman counterpart is Amour/Cupid. His name means “Desire”.

One time, a gang of huge and terrible Giants attacked Mount Olympus, hurling rocks and fire-brands at the palace of the gods from their mountain tops. There were 24 of these Giants, sons of Gaea, Mother Earth.

When one of these Giants, Porphyrion, broke through the Olympians’ defenses and tried to strangle Hera, Eros shot a timely arrow at the monster and wounded him in the liver.

His anger turned to lust and he then attempted to violate the Queen of the Olympians. This so enraged Zeus, seeing his wife about to be molested, that he raced up to Porphyrion and struck him down with a thunderbolt.

When Hera and Athena were trying to figure out how best to assist Jason and the Argonauts on their quest for the Golden Fleece, they approached Aphrodite for help. The goddess of Love located her mischievous son, who was playing dice with the boy Ganymede, and cheating at that, and instructed him to go to the palace at Colchis.

There, Eros let fly an arrow at the heart of the witch, princess Medea, causing her to fall in love with the hero Jason, and consequently leading to the recovery of the precious Golden Fleece by the Argonauts.

It was also Eros who shot an arrow of love into the heart of the most beautiful mortal woman, Helen, making her instantly fall in love with the Trojan prince Paris. This infatuation led to Paris and Helen running away to Troy, which prompted the infuriated Greeks to begin the Trojan War in retaliation.

“Hear The Thunder of Silence” by Suzanne Deakins, H.W., M.

Many in our community have lived in pain and confusion this past year. What we thought we understood and knew was not to be. Our country and community have been thrown into a state of chaos and pain. There are no quick answers for any of us. We each must find our Truth and reality in finding resolution with this time in history.

Listening is one of the most important skills we need to help us understand where we have come from and where we are headed. It is the most important skill in arbitration and resolving conflicts. Conflicts of personal and public nature can only be resolved when we take the time to listen to what is actually being said. For us to find resolution (NOT COMPROMISE) we must resolve personal interior conflicts and come to terms within our consciousness about our countries current state of affairs. It is my experience that by listening we may find paths we did not know existed.

A friend on Facebook posted a saying that reminded me of how important it is to listen and silence our minds. Most of us try to listen but we seem to hear what we want to hear so we can reply.  Fifty seconds out of every 60 minutes of listening is our mind preparing to make a reply. Hence we only hear a small portion of what is actually being said.  Because we hear does not mean we are listening.

Finding the Silence

Filling our ears with all we want to say we miss what is being said. The ego mind is fast to respond to any conversation. It feels more intelligent and in control if it is talking. When it’s not speaking verbally it will be filling our head with chatter. The ego mind fears the silence, the space between the words. Words and the meaning we place on words help define the dream state and the illusions of the past and future. We depict the past in words and provide the future a framework built from words. The incessant stream of words from the ego mind allows no room for silence. If there were to be silence the ego mind would cease to exist in that moment.

The silence of listening is an art. When we allow our being, our whole being to be in a state of silence we hear what has yet to be said. The reality is not in the words, but in the space between the words. This space holds silence. The words form relationships to each other and have meaning because of the space between, the silences. Without the silence, the words have no meaning.  When we allow the silence to fill our being we allow the reality to speak. The reality of our being can only be heard in the silence. Be silent and hear what you have not heard. One of the most healing acts any of us can perform is to listen to another. This does not mean advising, or coaching or counseling but silently focused in an attending state of consciousness…listening. Fully listening. There is a great cry of pain in our world. Pain and violence are a direct result of deaf ears and separation of spirit. When we feel we are not heard when we feel disconnected we experience pain.

When we listen and know we are heard, we feel connected. Listening creates relationships. When we are connected our pain of separation lessens and disappears. Our spirit feels connected and whole. When we listen to another genuinely listen it is an act of spirit and act of caring and love.

The act of listening can be self-healing. If you listen really listen to your own being…to the truth of you, your  I AM I… you will find a great deal of your pain of separation ceases. We can heal ourselves by listening to our spirit…we can rid ourselves of the depression by listening to another.       Be quiet and hear!
