“Stay as Sick as You Are” by Katie Lee
I would have you as you are
That’s the way I love you
I’m so afraid that time and life
May mellow and mature you
Afraid some clever analyst
May in a decade cure you
Don’t change your basic patterns
Strange, as they may be
The way you are, oh my darling
You never can belong to anybody else but me
I love your streak of cruelty
Your psychopathic lies
The homicidal tendencies
Shining in your eyes
Don’t change your psychic structures,
Weird as it may be
Your wild and strange misbehavior
And you rich my lonely days with very deep anxiety
I love your endless fantasies
Your morbid little tears
You make me feel so needed, sweet
With your countless fears
Don’t change your odd neuroses
They’re what make you mine
For no one else dear would have you
So don’t you ever change a lick
No, stay darling, stay, way under par
Stay darling, stay, as constant as the stars.
Stay darling, stay Stay as sick as you are.
What a great piece for RHS… Thanks for posting this.
Yes, Carol Carter used to sing this wonderfully as only Carol can…
I remember it well. One of my favorite memories from those days. That and the RHS song…
You mean Peggy Lee’s “Love Song”?
I remember Carol and Mary Ritley singing a duet called teh RHS song, which was based on “On the Street Where You Live” from Lerner and Lowe’s “My Fair Lady” – but with new lyrics by (I think) Ms Ritley, some of which I can recall:
I have often been in this scene before,
But the feeling hasn’t ever been so keen before.
All at once am I
Seven inches high,
Knowing I’m on the verge of a “Thing”!
I don’t remember that at all. Boy, if anybody out there knows the lyrics to this song, I’d love to post them on the BB.
This most likely was a song from our Clappsaddle production of the original Atlanta’s WitsEnd (a comedy group like SNL) material. I remember the line from the song.
