Aquarius New Moon

The New Moon in Aquarius highlights the desire to strike a balance between honoring your own needs while doing right by others. Aquarius is an inherently humanitarian sign, but it can often feel conflicted by both the desire to assist others and the need to enjoy personal space and freedom. This New Moon offers the chance to regain or fine-tune your equilibrium.

At this time, there may be an opportunity to get involved in a worthwhile cause or endeavor. Wherever we sense we can make a significant contribution, our help will surely be needed. The early degrees of the Sun and Moon in Aquarius suggest this might be a new venture where we don’t have a lot of experience. There could be a learning curve, and we might need to factor in more time than expected. To get on and make progress — whether individually or within a group — perhaps extra research will be required, for example, or spending time helping others understand a matter.

Indeed, this Moon is also influenced by Saturn as co-ruler, which governs time and boundaries. The sense of having only limited space and resources — including time — could feel quite pressing. Yet, we manage to really focus because of it! Limitations can occasionally work more in our favor, so we may be grateful for them in the end.

This Saturnian influence is countered by the Moon’s sextile to Jupiter, the planet of generosity and expansion, which urges us to give everything and want more. Yet, perhaps we manage the contradiction rather magically, since Jupiter in good aspect often indicates the universe is “with us.” Maybe we pack a lot into a limited timetable, no matter what!

Jupiter also emphasizes a need for freedom — perhaps creative freedom — especially as this planet now embraces the creative fire of Aries. Working at a faster pace, ideas are responded to more intuitively, rather than mulled over to reach a careful conclusion. And this may just work because we have some sort of blessing behind us.

A sense of independence in keeping with the Moon’s modern dispositing planet, Uranus, located in down-to-earth Taurus, opens us to sudden inspiration and innovative methods. Maybe a situation presenting itself is a bit different than usual, or potentially we carve a pioneering path with the combination of energies in play at the moment!

There’s also a great determination to achieve a specific result related to a long-term project or ambition, thanks to Moon in conjunction with Pluto (near the final degree of Capricorn), lending a certain intensity to matters. It’s as though life depends on getting this thing done and getting it right!

The emotional impact may be a sense of drivenness, adding a certain passion and energy to help manage the process. But we might also find this mix a little heady or just plain painful! Such is the challenge with Pluto: we soar to great heights one moment but hit the ground with a bump at the next. Perhaps the most critical point to remember is that we are indeed dealing with something in process and if we are to make solid progress, there will be up-and-down stages to tolerate.

A Plutonic approach includes going it alone because we can’t bear others to be around us through our turmoil. And yet, having a moment to check in with another, even if only to obtain useful, reassuring details, might be just what’s needed. Finding compassion within ourselves to reach out to others, rather than suffering in silence, could be wise. Of course, there’s no guarantee others hear us fully or know how best to respond. But it could matter to our sense of integrity to be honest and real — to be true to ourselves, at least. This may have its own tonic effect, no matter what reply we do or don’t elicit from another. If we just can’t bear to share, then private writings could be our Elixir!
