The Gemini New Moon draws attention to communication at all levels — internally and externally — and of all types. Therefore, passing thoughts and ideas, as well as positive and negative self-talk, are under the microscope. But so, too, are the ways we interact with others through communicating. With Gemini accentuated, the verbal exchange is often at the forefront and, under the Moon’s rays, can be emotionally driven. The outflow of words may be our key method of emotional clearing, but equally, we need to hear back from others.

As part of the current lunation, Jupiter sits in oppositionto the SunMoon conjunction and to Mercury. Jupiter, the planet of plenty, has bountiful wisdom, knowledge, and experience to offer. Yet, in opposition to the Moon, Sun, and Mercury, it may also have just a little too much to say! Part of the challenge for many of us this month, then, will be achieving a fine balance in applying knowledge and communication skills. While getting to the truth is also the spiritual direction of Jupiter, the way this truth sets us free may not always be comfortable. An outpouring of words, therapeutic though that could be, might lead to stronger ripples and developments than anticipated. To some degree, we can perhaps influence the direction of those developments, with Mercury strong in its own sign and, unlike Jupiter, in forward (rather than retrograde) motion. But listening — and truly hearing what is said — may be at least as vital as speaking up.

The flip side of all of this is that, even if events still seem beyond our control or wishes at times, it is probably pointless to avoid the truth — at least in the longer term. But, as T. S. Eliot wrote, in his poem Burnt Norton (the first of his Four Quartets), “humankind cannot bear very much reality.” As we acknowledge that the human psyche and related body systems can only deal with so much at once, now is the perfect time for getting back to basics. To prevent life from becoming too stressful for us, we can avoid the all-at-once, nonstop flow of Jupiterian excess by choosing more carefully what we focus on and take on.

Gemini is famous for keeping options open, perhaps trying to escape boredom or the potential disappointment of committing to something that then fails to please or deliver. But it could be that leaving things open, without a clear commitment, is the real problem, and allowing the brain to become overloaded with options is unhelpful. Fortunately, we can fall back on tried and tested methods, such as meditation, mindfulness, and physical exercise, to bring the mind and body back into balance and find peace.

PLAN YOUR OWN NEW MOON CEREMONY. Give yourself some quiet time in meditation to see where you need to seed new ways of becoming. List these areas within your life you want to change. What areas do you want to break free from the norm and become more productive and discerning? The NEW MOON is the time to manifest the personal attributes you want to cultivate as well as the tangible things you want to bring to you. Possible phrasing: I now manifest ____ into my life. I am now _______ . Remember, think, envision and feel with as much emotion as possible, as though you already have what you want. Thoughts are things and the brain manifests exactly what you show it in the form of thoughts, visuals and emotions. The Buddha said, and I am paraphrasing, “We are the sum total of our thoughts up to today. ” If we want to be different then we must change our thoughts. “If you always do what you’ve always done then you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” CONSCIOUS CHANGE is the key.
