Community UpdateJuly 2025 Celebrating CommunityA Month of New Beginnings in The Season of Celebration ![]() As the month of June ushers in a flurry of weddings and graduations, you might say June is the month of celebration. In fact, the word June comes from Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage. Newlyweds are starting their new life as a couple. School is over and students are having a last fling before going off to college. Parents are packing the family SUV for vacations, opening to the new rhythms of Summertime. June has both the longest days of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere) and the shortest (in the Southern Hemisphere). June is also the month we celebrate Father’s Day and the start in earnest to grilling-on-the-barbeque outdoor living. Just throw a stone in any direction and you’re bound to hit a party-goer, as everywhere we celebrate new beginnings. In The Prosperos, we celebrate new beginnings of a different sort. For within the heart of every person, a field of pure potentiality becomes a doorway through which the originality and genius of each person can enter the world. We leave behind ideas that are just never big enough to house the extraordinary essence of the human soul. We find new beginnings, the unpredictable good hidden within every moment and every circumstance. Calvin Harris, H.W., M. taught Translation® classrecently in Tulsa, Oklahoma The class was well-received by students, who appreciated Calvin’s unique approach to teaching Translation® with videos and humor. His engaging teaching style was inspiring, educational and fully explanatory of the techniques. Students praised Harris for making the complex subject of Translation® accessible and enjoyable. They highlighted that his use of videos helped illustrate difficult concepts visually, making them easier to understand. Overall, Harris’s class was deemed a great success. When I was a young teen, I went to a Southern California mountains camp. It was the first place I ever rode a horse in the woods, shot a bow and arrow, and went lake swimming/canoeing – it was also where I had my first experience as a teen with other teens my age and older who supported each other in group activities. Over the years some of these memories have faded into the cycle of adult responsibilities, but I have always looked for opportunities to rekindle that supportive not-a-care-in-the-world feeling, even just for a little while. The Prosperos Assemblies have held this promise for me as well as – expect the unexpected – in learning something new, coupled with a type of camaraderie built on mutual trust and friendship among like-minded people who spend time together. When I was a kid, it was never too early to start dreaming, imagining, thinking or planning for summer camp. As a kid it seemed like it took forever to get to the day I would be leaving for camp, but in real time, if arrangements had not been made in the appropriate time frame, summer camp could be out-of-reach because the opportunity to make reservations had come and gone, or beds had reached capacity far before the final day for registration. As it turns out, I’m not the only one who dreams of summer camp – today, more and more groups and hotels are offering programming that is geared toward adults, yet designed to re-create the feeling of childhood discovery and wonder. The Prosperos is one of them. While many types of groups around the world offer these camp-like vibes, The Prosperos presents the real deal and has since 1957. Your experience in Assembly will be one that will linger in your consciousness as path-changing. After all, you have come to experience the unexpected. ![]() Pat Lambert, Vesper Flights contributor “A little old couple who had begun their lives together sixty years ago – after attending a class given by Thane, Dean of the Prosperos – set out to attend a Translation® class.
