Capricorn Full Moon
The Full Moon in early Capricorn (1°07′) signifies either something reaching fruition or the first of two projects coming to completion. In July, a second Full Moon in the last degree of Capricorn (29°08′) will be when we may see the second project conclude — or second shoe fall, as it were.
The general focus of the Capricorn Moon is a need or desire for strong leadership. The kind that’s well thought-out, drawing upon years of experience — or, at least, based on repeated exposure to certain situations. Capricorn tends to be more measured and less impulsive than fellow cardinal sign Aries, and is ably ready to establish ground early, thoroughly input from others before venturing forth with suggestions or solutions. Unlike fellow cardinal Libra, a sign that can be elusive or struggle to commit, Capricorn is a sign of clear thinking and solid decision-making. Here, the Moon opposes Libra’s ruling planet Venus, suggesting pressure to shake off people-pleasing tendencies. It’s quite possible a decision won’t please everyone, and with that, there’s finally progress in a situation, instead of stuckness.
Such a development may only advance if based on true “needs” or exertion of effort, however — since both Venus and Mercury are close to the Sun, bringing in a relatively hefty opposition to the Moon. Mercury can love an argument, so there may be moments of contention from alternative points of view. In traditional astrology, the Capricorn Moon is in detriment. There’s potential for needs to be ignored for a certain period, and we may have to draw upon Capricorn’s patient, resilient qualities to battle this one through!
Mars is in Venus’s temple, Taurus, and aspects the Moon by trine, adding elements of harmony and agreement. With both Mars and the Moon in earth signs, there’s an essential understanding and sympathy between them. Mars in Taurus could have more clout than the Moon in Capricorn alone — even if Mars is considered in “exile” in the sign of the Bull! The result might be that the rather stubborn, brutish nature of the Mars–Taurus combination lends the Moon extra strength and insistence. It’s also fair to say that, with a Full Moon, much hangs in the balance, and we can’t always predict what will topple the opposition. If this were a two-way competition or another situation involving two factions, one side may prevail, but which one remains to be seen.
A somewhat more contentious link is the out-of-sign square between the Moon and Neptune (placed in the last degree of Pisces). Such dissociate (out-of-sign) aspect connections can easily be missed, and, in this case, that chimes well with Neptune’s obscure nature! But the square is clearly “on,” and Neptune has strength in its own sign, meaning it expresses its nature well. This could challenge Capricornian characteristics, like pinning down matters and solidifying a plan.
One issue with Neptune challenges can be memory loss. We may struggle to remember details of conversations or instructions; we don’t recall where we placed things; or we can’t recollect someone’s name, as hard as we try. These matters may seem insignificant, yet they are important in certain circumstances. Since the essence of this is like the tide of the sea washing away or moving items along the beach, our task, if we need things to be different, is to find a way to capture those facts, objects, or details for retrieval in the future. Whether we write them down, frame them, put them in a safety deposit box — or any other way of engaging with the concrete world — this will help to prevent the mind from drifting us along too far. Our stalwart efforts will surely be rewarded!
