You are looking at a photograph of the planet Pluto, taken in 2015 by NASA’s New Horizon spacecraft. Pluto is considered a “dwarf planet.” It is roughly two-thirds the size of Earth’s moon. It is located approximately three billion miles from Earth. This image shows that the surface of Pluto is shrouded in an atmospheric haze, containing a chemically rich melange of nitrogen, methane, and carbon monoxide.
