 –Looking Like Your SELF–
by Janet Cornwell, H.W.,m.

We often say  of a sick person, or of someone who is suffering or grieving, “He doesn’t look like himself.” This statement includes as much Truth as metaphor. As do several other much-used expressions (for example, “I’m just not myself today,” or, “She’s beside herself with worry”), the phrase conveys the message that looking “wrong” involves a separation from one’s Self.

Janet Cornwell, H.W.,m.

There’s even been a cold-remedy commercial that promises a certain product will not only cure your sniffles and sneezes, but will “make you your old self again.” That ought to sell the stuff!

This is because, fundamentally, we all want to be ourselves. Even though we are taught lots of ways to hide pieces of our private lives, we still advise each other that the best way to handle a situation is just to “be yourself.” It rings true because it is true, and our inner Self knows it.

Yet, after years of learning to conceal physical traits as well as emotions and thoughts, and of feeling we must eliminate certain parts of our perceived self for social or cultural reasons, how do we recognize our real Self? How do we let the glory of our native God Self shine through if we are hindered by embarrassment, anger, uncertainty and years of anti-Self conditioning? And, sometimes more importantly, how do we let our real Self out of the bag without embarrassing or angering other people? “After all,” you think, “they are the ones who have to look at me…” But you can give them the look of your best Self!

Sometimes tapping into that real Self is hard to do, but at other times it seems like the most obvious thing in the world. It starts with a realization that your true Self is divine, an individuation of Infinite Consciousness, and therefore perfect and beautiful. Sometimes one comes to this realization through general life experiences, through reading, or through reflection. Or again, one may find out through religious study, or through counseling and group therapy. Some may realize it only after a serious crisis has necessitated great changes in outlook. In any case, there are many ways of relearning, of reestablishing your original love of yourself and your feeling of belonging in the universe.

If you are going through a crisis, or want to change your perception of your Self without falling apart, consider what The Prosperos has to offer. Training in the techniques of Translation® and Releasing the Hidden SplendourTM provide immediate and ongoing methods of getting to know and appreciate your true and divine Self.

When you reach that point where you consciously “are” your Self, it shows. You “look like your Self.” For instance, a woman I know recently took a substantial step toward her Self. In a relatively short time, people have begun remarking how pretty she is — she who, for years, was regarded as a hopeless “plain Jane.”

A young man I know has, within a couple of years of intense Self-discovery, changed his image from that of an irresponsible wild man to that of a bright, reliable, downright handsome champion of the community. All that without cutting his long hair or buying a three-piece suit!

Everyone has seen examples of this sort of transfiguration, as when great happiness or love gives, even momentarily, a genuine radiance to a person. These are the moments when a person feels and looks most “together” with his world — his Self. It’s a pretty potent testimonial to the power of true oneness with Self: it allows the true — the right, the beautiful — expression of Self to come to the surface.

You’ve probably noticed how much more pleasant it is to look in the mirror when you’re feeling “together.” And how much easier it is to do things about outward appearance — diet, shop for clothes, or even just smile — when you’re in touch with your Self, unburdened by doubts about your place, presence, and Being.

To know your Self is to love your Self. So go on, get together with your Self! Fall in love with your Self! It will show most pleasingly!

And it will reveal more of the many-splendored Being that you are, my love.
