Libra New Moon

The New Moon in Libra typically brings a certain delicacy into proceedings, along with the need to smooth things over — but this lunation is accompanied by Mars, which is not at home here. The impatient, hotheaded Mars energy finds the coolness of Libra too calming and will sense the fire re being sucked from its center. Some people may feel this is a good thing — especially when dealing with another’s rash temperament or impetuous behavior!

It’s probably fair to say that those who don’t wish to be calmed will find more ways to get an adrenaline boost. And in that case, it may be best to leave them to it, rather than attempt to blanket the flames. After all, any intense force will usually experience a leveling out at some point, eventually.

Mercury is also in on the Libra balancing act, since it is conjunct the Moon, Sun, and Mars — albeit a little further apart (6–7°) from those three. With Mercury and Mars in close proximity, it’s easy to imagine arguments brewing. What must be borne in mind, though, is they can be short lived so long as one party refuses to retaliate. If that does not occur, then the image of a seesaw comes to mind, where one person hits the ground with a bump as the other swings high into the air. Basically, it’s not quite the even-handed ride Libra wants — and managing to maintain the equilibrium in between isn’t the easiest achievement because it involves both people working hard at scarcely moving at all!

Nonetheless, a situation may arise that will require exactly that level of composure, willingness, and discipline if a desired result is going to be achieved. It is by no means completely out of reach, but may take quite some diligence and gentleness to manage. Perhaps less easily managed will be some sort of surprise event or discovery, indicated by a close quincunx from Uranus in Taurus to the Moon, Sun, and Mars. Since Taurus and Libra are ruled by the same planet — Venus — but through a different expression, there’s a sense of relatedness inherent in the intervening event or finding. Possibly a situation concerning a sibling, close relative, neighbor, or friend becomes relevant, for example — and will take up more space and time in our lives.

Being that Uranus is an outer planet — and often signifies more global occurrences — it might just be that an external event impacts us in a sideways manner and manages to cause quite a bit of upheaval, personally. What could help during this time is a reminder that the initial discomfort, whilst it may be intense, is only temporary. If we must deal with ongoing repercussions, then they may be connected with a type of improvement or innovation that will eventually make for a better situation. Only time will bring the full picture into view, of course. But often when Uranus sweeps in, we experience a benefit overall, especially during the longer term.

There may also be a situation to deal with around a separation or a matter that brings a sense of alienation. Again, this is probably a temporary rift or feeling of difference. Uranus in Taurus is making inroads, albeit perhaps in rather haphazard, strange ways. But what seems foreign and peculiar, at first, could soon become part of a new normal!

The New Moon and Mars are opposing Chiron, the wounded-healer centaur planetoid, which represents the place of our wounds — as well as our ability to heal self and others. It is quite possible that an emotional or physical wound will be tapped soon, along with an opportunity for healing or getting to the underlying issue and letting some air in. Chiron has been described by Barbara Hand Clow as the rainbow bridge between Saturn and Uranus — linking old and new, traditional and unconventional. Interestingly, Saturn forms a loose trine to the Sun, Moon, and Mars in this lunation. It seems that pulling away from an old situation may reveal a chance to adjust and end up with something better. We are being encouraged, perhaps, to trust youthful, new energy and to know that what remains of the past successfully does so because it has stood the test of time and remains valid and useful.
