New Thinking Allowed with Jeffrey Mishlove • May 10, 2023 Adam Crabtree, RP, is a trainer of psychotherapists and has a private therapy practice in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, He is author of From Mesmer to Freud: Magnetic Sleep and the Roots of Psychological Healing, Multiple Man: Explorations in Possession and Multiple Personality, Trance Zero: Breaking the Spell of Conformity, Evolutionary Love and the Ravages of Greed, and The Land of Hypnogogia. He is also coauthor of Irreducible Mind: Toward a Psychology for the 21st Century, and he is coeditor of Beyond Physicalism: Toward Reconciliation of Science and Spirituality. In this video from 2018, he explains his definition of a trance state and also delineates four different kinds of trance. He maintains that we are always in a state of trance of one type or another, in effect, going from trance state to trance state. He also points out that trance states can be both positive and negative. He suggests that we can wake up from our negative trances, and use our positive trance states to foster human potential.
