Rupert Spira says we’re not really human beings

In prayer or meditation, we sink more and more deeply into being. That is, our being or self extricates itself from experience and sinks more and more deeply into itself. Being without form – transparent, silent, empty – our being shares none of the limitations or qualities that characterise our human experience. Therefore, at the deepest level, we are not really human beings; we are simply being, clothed in human experience.

Rupert Spira: “All people and things are an appearance of the one infinite reality.”

Be only being, know only being and love only being. This does not imply any rejection of people or things but rather the felt understanding that all people and things are an appearance of the one infinite reality, God’s being, our being.

Rupert Spira on simply being

Simply being is the innermost aspect of our experience. All other experience – thoughts, feelings, sensations and so on – is added to the fact of simply being and then removed from it. The fact of simply being remains.

Rupert Spira on having an agenda

Don’t have any agenda with the content of experience. The reason why awareness is always at peace and happy is precisely because it does not have any agenda with the content of experience. It simply allows experience be as it is and, as a result, experience allows awareness to remain as it is.

Rupert Spira on the objects and selves in our life

Individual objects and selves are appearances of the one reality, the one infinite, indivisible being. All that is necessary is to understand this, feel this and lead a life to the best of our ability in a way that is consistent with and an expression of this felt understanding.

Rupert Spira on the distance from our self to our self

There is no distance from our self to our self and, therefore, no room for effort, practice or discipline. We simply remain as we are, before we seemed to be qualified by the content of experience..
