The Astrology Podcast May 3, 2020 • This is a re-release of episode 84 of The Astrology Podcast, where I interviewed Richard Tarnas about his book Cosmos and Psyche. This landmark book was released in 2006, and the purpose of this episode is to give an overview of the book, talk a bit about what went into writing it, as well as to discuss some developments that have taken place in the past decade since it came out. This is an audio only episode, because it was from before I started recording video. I’m re-releasing this episode here though for subscribers who only follow the podcast in YouTube, and also since Tarnas’ work has seen a bit of a revival due to events happening in the world recently. This is episode 84 of The Astrology Podcast, which was originally recorded on July 24, 2016, and was released to the public on July 26, 2016. There is a detailed outline of this episode as well as a transcript on the podcast website: https://theastrologypodcast.com/2016/…https://theastrologypodcast.com/trans…

Richard Tarnas – On the Planetary Alignments 2024, An Archetypal Astrological Analysis
ArchetypalVie • Feb 23, 2024 Archetypal astrology is an approach influenced by Jungian and transpersonal psychology that studies the connection between the changing positions of the planets in the solar system and archetypal patterns in human experience and history. The evidence of consistent correlations between planetary alignments and world events, as seen through the lens of archetypal astrology, can provide us with an invaluable larger context for our time. Understanding the current world transits in terms of the cyclical patterns and historical trends that led to this moment can help us engage with greater consciousness and skillful intelligence the powerful forces now active in the world. In this sense, archetypal astrology can be seen as a kind of cosmic extension of the great depth psychology project initiated by Jung and other pioneers over a century ago: helping us become more conscious of the deep unconscious, less like puppets and more like co-creative participants in relation to the archetypal powers within and around us. Join CIIS Professor Emeritus and cultural historian Richard Tarnas for an in-depth overview of what’s happening with the planets during these challenging times, helping us better understand the profound drama currently facing the Earth community.

Book: “Psyche Unbound: An erotic retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche”

Psyche Unbound: An erotic retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche
Zenobia Neil
The celebrated beauty of Roman princess Psyche has enraged Venus, the Goddess of Love and Beauty. As punishment, Psyche is left naked on the beach to be sacrificed to a monster. When Cupid, the God of Love, swoops her up and flies her to the monster’s palace, Psyche mistakenly wraps her legs around his waist, looks into his eyes, and falls in love.
Blindfolded and tied to a bed, Psyche awaits the monster, vowing to be brave as she faces death. Yet when the monster arrives, he marries her on the condition she never see his face. As she grows to love her shadow husband, she can’t stop thinking about the God of Love. Consumed by curiosity, Psyche breaks her promise by lighting a lamp. Awaking in a rage, and furious with her betrayal, her husband banishes her from the palace.
Psyche begs Venus for another chance at love. Unmoved, Venus demands Psyche perform three impossible tasks. If Psyche succeeds, her husband will return. If she fails, she will be condemned to death.
Can Psyche satisfy Venus and win back her true love?

Rick Tarnas: We are not separate from nature
The Way of th Apr 14, 2022 Rick Tarnas explains humanity’s sense of separation from the natural world through a philosophical and historical perspective. This disconnect has resulted in the destruction of the Earths ecosystem, which Rick refers to as a crisis of consciousness for both individuals and the collective. He observes how Stan’s work with psychedelics and exposure to Eastern philosophies allowed him to see the archetypal nature of non-ordinary experiences, and note the similarities to ancient spiritual traditions. This rendered Stan’s approach “psychiatrically grounded and spiritually informed.” Seeing how the traumas underlying Stan’s 4 Basic Perinatal Matrices are reflected in humanity’s fear of mortality, the fear of the feminine, and our need to control nature, Rick believes humanity is poised for a collective death/ rebirth experience.
