If the elimination produces the equation 0=0, then the two equations are for the same line. This means that there are an infinite number of solutions.

Hi John,
what is the elimination method for?
— If this were simple algebra, then arriving at 0 = 0 would mean that the variables had been eliminated, which is no help if finding what x, or y, or z equals in a given equation.
— If this were arithmetic, then e.g., 3 – 3 = 4 – 4. This is true, but not very interesting.
