Movie recommendation: “Moonlight”

★ ‘MOONLIGHT’ (R, 1:50) This quiet, lyrical film, chronicling three chapters in the life of a young man named Chiron, can be fairly described as a movie about growing up poor, gay and black in America. It is a great deal more than that, but it is also exactly that. Directed by Barry Jenkins and based on a play by Tarell Alvin McCraney, the movie treats its characters with an empathy that feels radical, and renders their lives with an aesthetic care that is exquisite and exciting.
