New Moon in Virgo

The Virgo New Moon brings the spirit of service and hard work to the fore, no matter how much effort we have or have not expended so far. We could go from a relatively quiet, restful, or even playful phase into an intensive work period — probably quite happily, even if it does take a little while to find our feet at first. Picking up with methods we already know may still require getting ourselves up to speed again. But once we do apply some energy, we’ll surely see results. Virgo puts us in touch with a capacity to tackle anything that involves intricate detail, which could be a great help when dealing with copious paperwork, figures, or practical complexity.

We should bear in mind that, with a New Moon, this is the early stage of events; we might not even know at this moment precisely what we’re aiming for or how the full picture should look. Yet, the Moon has an association with instinct and intuition; whilst some would argue these are two different functions, both are enigmatic and valuable. Either way, we can now tap into such mysterious channels of information to guide us forward, even when we don’t have the full map in view.

The Moon will be separating from a square to Mars in Gemini, where attention will feel divided — particularly by warring factions or through different arguments for how to move forward. Mars has a strong link with the physical side of life in the way that high spirits can promptly ignite an inner fire that translates quickly to definite action. The Moon, on the other hand, tends to be more pensive and aware of a variety of potential pathways and behaviors. A Virgo Moon can be rather irritable and sparky if pushed — as Mars might have managed! With this energy receding, the New Moon in Virgo may bring a sense of relief in being able to settle back into the intricate, analytical tasks it prefers.

There may, indeed, be a need to analyze what has happened over a recent situation once the heat has died down, bringing a chance to understand its meaning and potential. There might also be a need to just get lost in work or mundane tasks to let dust settle on other recent activities. The Moon has other aspects to make after the New Moon phase — such as a trine to Uranus, perhaps bringing a nice surprise or breath of fresh air. But we may be dwelling on recent events, so could need to be alert to avoid missing out on it.

Meanwhile, Mercury is in the early degrees of Libra, echoing a new phase subtly opening. Libra puts balance in the spotlight, which happens to also be reflected in the seesaw-style aspect of Mercury applying to soon oppose Jupiter — a planet that remains retrograde in Aries. These signs tend to pit the we-us-our perspective in any relationship — whether involving a couple, a larger team, or group of people — against the I-me-my focus of each individual involved. Such dissimilar viewpoints can make quite a difference to how decisions are made and how easily the energy moves forward in a given situation.

It could be that an opportunity is opening to notice where and how the focus merits a shift, whether slight or significant. We might need a higher level of judgment to manage the situation well. To achieve this, Mercury may be edging us to see more than one point of view; somehow, we manage to embrace another’s perspective without being bowled over or steamrollered by it. Yet, we can also hold our own position sufficiently well — or at least well enough to spot a point of compromise where all individuals will feel relatively satisfied with an agreed-on solution. Mercury has the dexterity to move in a number of directions, so, if the first suggestion doesn’t seem to work, there will still be another to consider!
