Op-Ed: High Watch Should Have a Voice

The trustees will vote on a new Dean at their annual meeting in September 2022.  Per the By-Laws of The Prosperos, it is the trustees, not the High Watch, who will be voting for the new Dean, but the High Watch has been encouraged to nominate people for this position as outlined in the April 3, 2022 email from the Dean Search Committee.

The Dean Search Committee is composed of HughJohn Malanaphy, Anne Bollman, and Calvin Harris. As of this writing, there are three nominees (to our knowledge) for the position of Dean: William Fennie, HughJohn Malanaphy and Mike Zonta. Nominations close on April 25.

I propose that the High Watch have a straw poll on the Dean vote before the Trustee’s annual meeting in September.  That way, even though we don’t have a vote for the new Dean, we will have a voice.

Mike Zonta, BB Editor

P.S. The straw poll should be open to all High Watch members who are current in their dues.  Dues are $24 annually.  You can pay at the Audio Center website at: www.theprosperos.com.

  1. I think this could be an empowering act. That is, if it’s not a personality contest, and not “political” in the sense of say an “establishment” candidate vs. an unknown, or even “stability” vs. an unknown change agent.

What I’m thinking is that there be some public information sharing about what the Dean does, and what options the candidates might choose for going forward.

There’s lots more that could be said. I’m just suggesting a kind of process of public information sharing that I would make me want to participate in a straw vote.
