“HOW ARE WE ALL HYPOCRITES?” BY ROBERT MCEWEN, H.W., M.

Use the archetypes to Release Your Inner Truth of Your Drama

“Live the Symbolic Life,” Carl Jung said,  as did Joseph Campbell.

Lets explore honesty and our inner lies we tell ourselves.  How are we lying and being hypocrites. From the Greek, ‘hypokrites,’ hypocrite literally means ‘an actor.’ Made up of two Greek words that literally translate as “an interpreter from underneath,” Greek actors would wear masks signifying the character they were playing, interpreting the story from behind the camouflage concealing their faces from the audience. We also conceal ourselves behind our masks for many reasons—out of fear that we won’t be accepted as we are; that our thoughts or ideas might be perceived as stupid or silly; that our problems are unique and won’t be understood.  Personhood is a mask.  Person tracks to the word Persona, which is your character, ego, or role we play in the Grand Theatre of life.  Shakespeare said, “Life is a stage” we act out.   We each need identification with our ontological universal self to observe from where we know we are not our persona, that it is a passing image.  We are using it to be hollow, witness the drama, and be consciousness conscious of consciousness.  How do we do it?

Well, we start with being honest.  Honesty is key in Releasing the Hidden Splendor.  We have our own private Psychodrama in the theatre in our consciousness.  Everything is in awareness as awareness we know as we observe our dramas.

We create our own theatre, our own drama, on numerous stages throughout our lives. Playing many parts, from tragedy to comedy and more, people on trial in the media keep us far away from self-reflection, where we might discover we too have a past that needs forgiving, a present requiring healing, and a different future we dream of having.

Because honesty is a tough sell when we look in the mirror and don’t like what we see—when we close our eyes and don’t like the sounds of our thoughts—when we open our mouths and don’t like what comes out. But truth can only be our own and it begins with honesty. It’s why I know I am lying when I say ‘I can’t’ before I have tried—when I cheat by trying to push my lessons aside instead of embracing them—when I am a hypocrite by using masks to hide behind my fears and not recognizing that who I really is a blessing and not shameful.  Shame is about an event that we think happened, Guilt is more intrinsic and about ourselves internally.  Deeper.  Robert Bly shared a workshop in this in the 80’s that I attended in Seattle.  Our mens group studied fairy tales to use the archetypes to explore our inner journey!
